Incite Jornal of Experimental Media has started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $5,000 by Saturday, November 5th. The funds will help to publish Incite’s Issue #3: New Age.

Incite is spearheaded by filmmaker and film scholar Brett Kashmere, alongside a long list of contributing and assistant editors and contributors. As stated on their website, Incite is “dedicated to the discourse, culture, and community of experimental film, video, and new media.”

“Merging print and online platforms, this hybrid journal addresses the lack of critical attention afforded film and media artists working today. In addition to scholarly articles, INCITE publishes aesthetic statements, manifestos, artist projects, multiples, archival documents, interviews, reviews, and hastily drawn plans.

Stationing ourselves at the cross-flow of research, scholarship, and creation, we encourage personal writing, critical poetics, and radical approaches to film and media.”

Incite has done a great job in its first three issues in writing critically about experimental film and the culture surrounding it. Incite has even featured some writing by and about filmmakers hailing from Winnipeg. Long-time Cinematheque programmer Dave Barber writes a great article about local filmmaker Mike Maryniuk in Issue #2. Also in Issue #2, Noam Gonnick has an article about and ex-Winnipeg patriot Walter Forsberg interviews New York media artist Cory Arcangel.

The most recent issue of Incite features some great articles by acclaimed filmmaker Roger Beebe, York University professor Tess Takahashi, curator and interdisciplinary artist Andrew James Paterson, and many other media artists, curators and experimental media scholars.

Please help donate to Incite via their Kickstarter campaign HERE! If they don’t reach their $5,000 goal by November 5th, they won’t get any of it! So DONATE NOW, and reap some of the great prizes!
