Kevin McDonald’s Comedy Film Festival Starts Tonight!

Thurs, April 5th, 2012

It should come as no suprise that Kevin McDonald’s favourite film by a comedy troupe is Brain Candy, the feature debut of his comedy troupe Kids in the Hall.

On Thursday, April 5th, McDonald will begin introducing a five-night series of his favourite troope comedy films, including Monty Python’s The Life of Brian, The Marx Brothers’ A Night at the Opera, Laurel and Hardy’s Way Out West, Beyond the Fringe’s Bedazzled (1967), and of course Brain Candy from Kids in the Hall.

Much like his “favourite comedy films” series that played at the Gas Station in 2011, McDonald has collected a stellar sampling of classic comedy films. Judging by this previous effort in film curating, my bet is that McDonald will be equal parts informative and hilarious in his introductions to these films.

As someone who had a small hand in this, I am stoked to see it come to fruition. However, I hope to see the day when McDonald will show his “favourite dark comedy” series, including Dr. Strangelove, Withnail and I, and Harold and Maude among others. This was the initial idea he brought forward to me.

The series begins with Brain Candy on Thursday, April 5th at the Cinematheque. For the full listings please see below. The series is being presented by both the Winnipeg Cinematheque and the Gas Station Theatre.
